Kurti appoints Agron Limani to head the Government Commission on Missing Persons

Agron Limani has been appointed by acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti as chair of the Government Commission on Missing Persons. The position was previously held by Minister Andin Hoti.

Announcing the decision on Facebook, Kurti said he had known Limani for more than 20 years and that during this time they had jointly organized actions seeking justice. Among them, he mentioned the protest held in 2004 outside the UNMIK offices, when a list of the names of 56 people suspected of involvement in the Krushë e Vogël massacre was made public.

Kurti said that Limani was arrested because of that action.

The acting prime minister also highlighted Limani’s role as co-author of the monograph “The Murdered Village,” which deals with the Krushë e Vogël massacre. According to him, the work was used as evidence by justice institutions in the court case in which Darko Tasić was found guilty.

In his full post, Kurti announced that during the day he had appointed Agron Limani to head the Government Commission on Missing Persons, entrusting him with a duty previously carried out by Minister Andin Hoti.

He said that he had known Limani for more than two decades and that the two had organized initiatives to seek justice. As an example, he cited the 2004 action near the UNMIK offices, during which they published the names of 56 suspected criminals linked to the massacre in Krushë e Vogël, after which Limani was arrested.

Kurti said that Limani was one of the authors of the monograph “The Murdered Village,” dedicated to the Krushë e Vogël massacre, a book that served as evidence for justice authorities in the case that ended with Darko Tasić’s conviction.

During the war, Agron Limani served as a soldier of the Kosovo Liberation Army. His brother was killed, while his father, uncle and cousin continue to be listed as missing. All three are among the group of 60 people who remain missing after the massacre carried out in this village by Serbian armed forces.

Limani’s efforts to uncover the truth and achieve justice began with his leadership of the Association for the Investigation of Abducted Persons “March 26, 1999.” He is an electrical engineer by profession and previously also served as director of Agriculture in the Municipality of Prizren.

Kurti stressed that, despite constant obstacles and sabotage by Serbia, the institutions remain determined to seek the truth so that the fate of every person forcibly disappeared during the last war can be clarified and justice can be served.

He also said that the recent excavations in Kalludër, Zubin Potok, were entirely the result of the work of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo. In this context, he reiterated the call for international pressure to be exerted on Serbia so that it implements the May 2, 2023 Declaration on persons forcibly disappeared.

Kurti specifically called for the opening of the archives of the Serbian forces, including changing the decision that keeps them classified for 30 years, until 2044, as well as making the archive of the 37th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army available.
