Kurti and Abdixhiku Close to Agreement, Kryeziu Describes Profile of Next President

The Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo appear to be close to an agreement that could bring the political crisis to an end and avert the holding of another snap election. According to the latest developments, the parties have already defined the profile of the president, with only the name remaining to be decided.

However, Albin Kurti and Lumir Abdixhiku have yet to give a final answer on what characteristics Kosovo’s new president should have. Former Constitutional Court member Kadri Kryeziu has also spoken about the issue.

“They must be 35 years old and must have been resident in Kosovo for the past ten years. Then, being consensual means being a person who views all political parties equally and does not see political parties as opponents.

Under the Constitution, the president is a factor of unity whose duty is to cooperate with the parliamentary political parties. They are also responsible for safeguarding the country’s legal and constitutional order. They must be a normal person with political knowledge and institutional experience…” Kadri Kryeziu, a former member of the Constitutional Court, told A2CNN.

After this profile was defined, the question arises as to whether there is such a person in Kosovo who could be elected president.

“There are enough such people in Kosovo. They should not be looking for something that does not exist. They are looking for something that does not exist. What category, what kind of character should this person have? They should be a normal person and, of course, like the other presidents who have served,” said Kadri Kryeziu, a former member of the Constitutional Court.

Kurti and Abdixhiku ended their meeting by pledging to return to talks, this time with specific names, after consulting with members of their respective parties.
