KFOR General in Mitrovica: Our Posture Is Adapting to the Situation

Brigadier General Chad Daniels, chief of staff of the KFOR mission, visited members of the mission in Mitrovica. During his stay, he familiarized himself with the work of the Multinational Specialized Unit (MSU) and the Liaison and Monitoring Teams (LMTs), which continue to support the KFOR mission in Mitrovica and northern Kosovo.

According to Daniels, the MSU provides a visible and mobile KFOR security presence, while maintaining the necessary readiness to respond.

“Meanwhile, the Liaison and Monitoring Teams maintain continuous contact with all local communities. Through this engagement, they help KFOR develop a better assessment of the situation and gain a clearer understanding of the security environment,” Brigadier General Daniels said.

He emphasized that the visit enabled him to see how the mission is adapting its posture while maintaining its core capabilities.

“What I have seen from our personnel demonstrates how KFOR is adapting its posture while simultaneously maintaining its most important capabilities: a visible presence, strong situational awareness, engagement with all local communities, and forces ready to respond when necessary, in line with our long-term mandate from the United Nations.”

The process of optimizing KFOR’s positioning is continuing gradually. Decisions regarding this process are based on the specific conditions on the ground and continuous assessments of the situation.

KFOR continues to fulfill the mandate established by the 1999 United Nations Security Council Resolution. The mission aims to help maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents of Kosovo and to ensure freedom of movement at all times and in an impartial manner, in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX).
