KFOR Begins Gradual Withdrawal from Ibar Bridge, Germany Reaffirms Commitment

On Monday, a Kosovo Police vehicle was seen on the Ibar Bridge in Mitrovica.

The police vehicle’s presence comes after KFOR announced that it had begun the gradual process of transitioning its permanent presence away from the bridge. The mission linked the move to the improved security situation in Kosovo and the more efficient deployment of its forces.

Although it had previously been reported that the issue had been under discussion for a long time, the change has not been widely discussed publicly in recent months.

Following these developments, the German Embassy in Kosovo emphasized that Berlin remains committed to contributing to KFOR and implementing the mission’s mandate, which aims to ensure a safe and stable environment in Kosovo.

“Germany remains committed to its contribution to KFOR, as mandated by the Bundestag, as well as to KFOR’s mission to maintain a safe and stable environment for all people living in Kosovo,” the German Embassy said in a statement.
