Kapshtica handles more than 30,000 departures in four days as emigrants return to Greece

More than 30,000 people have traveled from Albania to Greece through the Kapshtica border crossing over the past four days, marking a significant surge in movement.

The travelers are mainly Albanian emigrants who had come to the country to spend their holidays and are now heading back to Greece, where they live and work.

The high number of crossings has caused long lines of vehicles at the border crossing. According to travelers, waiting times are reaching up to two hours, while high temperatures are making the wait at the border even more difficult.

To manage the flow, four counters are operating on each side of the border to process travelers and vehicles, with the aim of reducing waiting times.

The line also stretches into the neutral zone, where emigrants remain in their vehicles while waiting for the procedures to be completed amid high temperatures.

Kapshtica remains one of the main crossing points for Albanian emigrants during the summer season. Movement is also expected to remain heavy in the coming days, as emigrants are ending their holidays and returning to the countries where they live.
