Investments and Inspections Cut Power Grid Losses by 1.1%, Bringing the Rate Down to 15.9%

Losses in the electricity distribution grid continued to decline during the first six months of the year. Data from the Distribution System Operator show that they fell to 15.91%, compared with 17% recorded during the same period a year earlier, representing an improvement of 1.1%.

This is the lowest level reported over the years for the January-June period, demonstrating the increased efficiency of the power grid. In 2024, losses stood at 17.97%; a year later, they fell to 17%, while in the first half of this year they reached 15.91%.

The decline in this indicator is generally linked to investments in the distribution system, improvements and modernization of infrastructure, as well as efforts to detect illegal connections and unauthorized interference. According to OSSH, the results are the product of continuous work on the grid, field inspections and measures implemented to reduce losses.

The level of losses is considered one of the most important indicators for assessing the distribution operator’s performance, as it has a direct impact on system costs and the efficiency of the electricity supply.

Technical losses stem mainly from the physical characteristics of the grid and the process of transmitting electricity. Meanwhile, non-technical losses include electricity theft, as well as problems related to metering and billing.
