Investigations into Belinda Balluku extend beyond Albania, SPAK should again seek her arrest

Analyst Poli Hoxha, speaking in an interview with News24, analyzed the latest allegations against Belinda Balluku.

Hoxha pointed out that the investigation into the former deputy prime minister has taken on an international dimension. He believes that the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) should again approach Parliament with a request for authorization to arrest her.

“Klodian Braho, as head of SPAK, is being more cautious because he aims to see the investigation through to the end with irrefutable evidence, which is not easy due to the lack of institutional cooperation. In Balluku’s case, the investigative trail has extended beyond Albanian territory, as the matter is extremely complex and requires its own time. I expect SPAK to submit a second request for her arrest, based on fresh evidence. These new findings, which did not exist in the first case file, are truly scandalous. The charges are extremely serious. If they are that certain, they can act without consulting Parliament and arrest her in the act. These protests have stripped Edi Rama of all legitimacy,” he said.

During the conversation, Hoxha also addressed Sali Berisha’s trip to the United States. He stressed that the former prime minister’s “non grata” status remains in force. According to the analyst, Berisha’s presence in the US represents an individual success, but carries no particular weight for the opposition grouping.

“The ‘non grata’ designation against Sali Berisha is still there. His supporters were enthusiastic that this sanction had been lifted, but the US Department of State itself clearly confirms otherwise, while Berisha has personally stated that he was never declared ‘non grata’. How could a measure be lifted when the person concerned claims it never existed? The official website of the US Department of State says nothing anywhere about the removal of this status. This visit is a personal achievement for him, not a triumph for the Democratic Party,” Poli Hoxha concluded.
