Interior Ministry: 20,976 Traffic Violations Recorded in Macedonia During July

Checks carried out by police officers from all internal affairs sectors on roads across the country between 01.07.2026 and 31.07.2026 resulted in a total of 20,976 payment orders being issued. According to the Interior Ministry, 4,241 of these violations were committed by drivers who exceeded the speed limit.

During July, 496 people were detained for reckless driving. Of these, 81 were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol, 373 for driving without a license, and 25 for violating a previous driving ban. This group also includes three people who drove above the speed limit in built-up areas, 13 who exceeded the speed limit outside built-up areas, and one person who drove in a prohibited direction.

Police activity statistics also show that 332 vehicles were seized during the same period under Article 300-b of the Criminal Code. A total of 4,694 violations were recorded for illegal parking, while 430 drivers were penalized for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Under the Law on Road Traffic Safety, penalties were also imposed on 2,073 motorcyclists who failed to wear protective helmets. A total of 1,829 road users were penalized for failing to wear seat belts.

Under the Law on Vehicles, 299 vehicles were taken off the road because they were unregistered, while 125 were removed due to technical defects. In addition, 44 drivers were penalized for failing to meet the legal requirements concerning vehicle window tinting with film, the Interior Ministry said.
