Strolenberg wrote that several accounts run by activists who keep the public informed about the protests in Albania are being removed from online platforms.
“Someone is trying to silence the Flamingo Revolution,” she wrote.
Strolenberg said that she had traveled to Albania several months earlier to support Albanian citizens in their demands for a better future.
“A few months ago, I went to Albania to support Albanians in their fight for a better future. Their fight for better pensions, better healthcare and against a corrupt government was an inspiration. Now, the accounts of the people keeping the world informed about what is happening in the streets are being taken down. This is nothing less than censorship and the suppression of free speech,” the EU lawmaker said.
She added: “Apparently, someone was willing to press a button and suddenly silence the entire opposition. This is madness.”
