Initiative to oust Abdixhiku, LDK secretary: No signatures have arrived at headquarters yet

The Secretary of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Ilir Ferati, has stated that so far no signatures have been submitted to the party’s central offices for convening an extraordinary Assembly.

Ferati emphasized that the news circulating about this initiative is not supported by official data and dismissed it as mere speculation.

“I did not notice any precise source in the reports of those portals. This remains in the realm of assumptions. I am at the headquarters and there is nothing, no document submission or official notification,” Ferati said.

His reaction follows information that on Tuesday, July 14, signatures were expected to be submitted for calling the LDK Assembly, where a vote of confidence would be sought for chairman Lumir Abdixhiku.

A week earlier, KosovaPress had exclusively revealed that at the head of this movement is Gazmend Muhaxheri, mayor of Peja, who is holding meetings across LDK branches throughout the country to gather the signatures of delegates aiming to oust Abdixhiku.

The background to the demand for his removal is linked to internal disappointment following the party’s poor performance in the June 7 elections.

Initially, there were calls for Abdixhiku’s resignation, but he categorically refused such a step.

In those elections, the LDK managed to secure only 16.69 percent of the votes, which gave it 18 seats in the Assembly of Kosovo.

According to the LDK’s internal regulations, the signatures of one-third of the assembly members do not bring about the immediate dismissal of the chairman, but merely create the opportunity to formally raise the issue of confidence.

The LDK Assembly is statutorily composed of 355 delegates emerging from branch assemblies, including the current chairman himself, Lumir Abdixhiku.

We recall that in January of this year, Abdixhiku survived a vote of confidence in the party assembly, following the disappointing result in the elections of December 28 last year.
