Ina Zhupa: State Audit Found Around €1 Million in Abuses in One Year, Sarandë Citizens Are Paying the Price of Misgovernance

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa once again raised allegations of abuses in the Municipality of Sarandë.

She referred to the latest report by the Supreme State Audit, which, according to her, identified around €1 million in abuses during just one audited year in this coastal municipality.

Zhupa said that the financial consequences of misgovernance are borne by the citizens of Sarandë. She called on them to take control of the municipality in the next elections and put the institution at the service of their interests.

In her full statement, the Democratic MP described the latest Supreme State Audit report as the clearest indictment against the Municipality of Sarandë.

According to the figures she presented, around €630,000 represents economic damage caused by the municipality’s inaction. Meanwhile, €226,000 is linked to procurement violations, €101,000 to paid but uncompleted works, while €117,000 is recorded as economic damage from celebrations and artistic-cultural projects that were not carried out in accordance with procurement procedures.

Zhupa argued that these findings cannot be attributed solely to one or two incompetent officials, but demonstrate, in her view, a model of governance built on mismanagement and the plundering of public money.

She accused the Municipality of Sarandë of wasting and stealing citizens’ taxes rather than using them in the public interest.

The MP warned that the denunciations would continue every day and that citizens would be supported in their protests and concerns. She also guaranteed that the case files would be sent to the justice system, while expressing the aim of taking control of the Municipality of Sarandë in the next elections and putting it at the service of citizens.
