How did the vehicle end up on the railway tracks after leaving the A3, killing three Kosovo emigrants? Details and footage from Germany

Three people were killed in a serious accident on the A3 motorway near Nittendorf, in the district of Regensburg. The vehicle left the road and ended up on the railway tracks, while the operation to remove it caused major disruption to road and rail traffic, German media reported, as “Bota sot” reports.

According to police, the car did not collide with a train, but the three people inside suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene despite the intervention of emergency teams.

The crash occurred in Bavaria’s Upper Palatinate region and had immediate consequences for traffic. Due to the work of rescue and recovery teams, rail traffic on the Regensburg-Nuremberg line was temporarily suspended, while the Nuremberg-bound carriageway of the A3 motorway, which runs over the tracks, was also closed. The motorway was reopened during the afternoon.

The completely wrecked vehicle was found near the railway, beneath the bridge carrying the A3 motorway.

Long queues of vehicles formed in the area during the morning hours. “There is considerable traffic congestion during rush hour, so we are already diverting traffic at the Sinzing exit,” a police spokesperson said.

Removing the remains of the car was particularly difficult. To accomplish this, they were lifted by crane up to the motorway bridge passing over the railway line.

Initial investigations indicate that at around 7:00 a.m., the vehicle left the right side of the motorway without being involved in a collision with another car. It then slid down an embankment and ended up on the tracks. In the initial stages of the investigation, it had not yet been determined what caused the accident or exactly how the car ended up on the railway. Police have brought in an expert to reconstruct the accident.

The accident also damaged the railway’s electrical lines. As a result, a train was left stranded in Regensburg after losing electrical power. Around 80 passengers were on board.

A train was provided for the passengers on a second track, allowing them to transfer. The evacuated train was then towed away, a spokesperson for railway company Agilis said.
