Housekeeper left disfigured by his dog, Chris Brown ordered to pay $13 million fine

A court in Los Angeles has ruled that American singer Chris Brown is liable for his dog’s attack on a household worker in 2020, ordering him to pay $13 million in damages. The decision came after a two-week trial, in which the jury found in favor of Maria Avila, who sued the artist claiming he had been negligent by allowing his large dog to roam freely in the yard of the residence.

According to Avila’s testimony, she was attacked by the animal while taking out the trash. She said the dog caused severe facial injuries, tearing away parts of her skin, which left her permanently disfigured. As a result of the attack, she lost sight in one eye and suffered serious nerve damage.

During the court proceedings, Chris Brown argued that the dog was kept for security reasons and was not a pet. He also claimed that he had warned Avila not to go into the yard without the presence of security guards, as the dog was not friendly.

However, Avila and her sister, Patricia, who also worked at the singer’s residence, denied that any such warning had ever been given.

It was also revealed in court that after the attack, Brown did not call the police and did not offer the worker medical assistance, but left the scene out of fear that the incident would become public.

Although Brown admitted part of the responsibility, he disputed the severity of the injuries and claimed that Avila also bore responsibility for the incident.

Maria Avila had sought $90 million in damages, but the court ruled that she should receive $13 million, while her sister, Patricia Avila, was awarded $885,000 for damages suffered in connection with the incident.
