Holidaymakers Put at Risk Along Coast, Two Inflatable Boats Seized / Operators Fined More Than 1 Million Lekë

Two operators of watercraft have been handed heavy fines and had their inflatable boats seized after they were caught travelling close to the shore, endangering the lives of holidaymakers in Vlora’s coastal areas. The total fines amount to more than 1 million lekë.

The first case was uncovered following a report that an inflatable boat was sailing near the shore at Potami Beach. Officers from the Vlora Local Directorate for Border and Migration (DVKM) responded immediately to identify the vessel and its operator. The boat was found at Drimadhes Beach, where it was impounded, while its operator, a citizen identified by the initials H. L., was fined 500,000 lekë.

Meanwhile, during patrols along the coastline, police officers noticed another inflatable boat moving dangerously close to shore in the area known as “Hidrovor Beach”. This vessel was also stopped and confiscated, while its operator, citizen E. Sh., was fined 510,000 lekë. Checks revealed that he did not have the legally required documents on board.

In its statement, the Border Police stressed that the Vlora DVKM is engaged in inspections, checks and immediate responses to all reports from citizens, with the primary aim of ensuring maritime safety. According to the statement, the two inflatable boats were impounded and their operators were fined 500,000 and 510,000 lekë respectively, for endangering holidaymakers by sailing close to shore and, in one case, for not having the necessary documentation on board.

Police said patrols will continue throughout the maritime area of Vlora County. They urged citizens, holidaymakers and visitors to immediately report any illegal activity that threatens maritime and public safety, assuring them that intervention will be immediate and in accordance with the law.
