Heavy Traffic in Elbasan, Road Police Intensify Checks

For several days, Elbasan has been experiencing a significant increase in the number of vehicles, particularly at the city’s entry and exit points.

Traffic congestion reaches its highest levels during the weekend. Kilometer-long queues form on the Elbasan–Tirana highway, especially near the Hinka area, the Shijon roundabout and Bradashesh.

The situation is also affected by vehicles passing through Elbasan while traveling toward the southeastern and southern parts of the country.

To prevent the roads from becoming blocked and ensure the normal flow of traffic, the Road Police have increased the number of officers on the ground, as well as monitoring of the most problematic road sections.

According to the police, checks are being carried out continuously on the Tirana–Elbasan, Elbasan–Qafë Thanë and Tirana–Rrogozhinë routes.

Alongside the heavy traffic, violations of traffic regulations continue to be recorded on the roads of Elbasan. Among the most dangerous violations identified by officers are improper overtaking maneuvers.

Even after the changes made to the Road Code and the tightening of punitive measures, the number of drivers putting themselves and other road users at risk remains high.

During the past week alone, administrative measures were imposed on around 1,800 vehicle drivers, while three of them lost their driving licenses.

As vehicle traffic is expected to remain heavy, the Road Police are calling on drivers to exercise greater caution, obey road signs and avoid dangerous maneuvers.

Monitoring of the main routes will continue 24 hours a day, with the aim of preventing accidents and keeping the traffic situation under control.
