Heavy security measures as Ilir Selmani is escorted to GJKKO, implicated in the murder of former police officer Malko

Ilir Selmani, escorted under heavy security, was brought to the GJKKO appeal. He is accused of being a member of the so-called ‘Duka clan’ and of involvement in the elimination of former police officer Santiago Malko, who was considered Ervis Martinaj’s trusted man.

The special session began around 14:30, with the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime seeking a sentence of 28 years in prison. A short time earlier, Selmani had been placed under house arrest after the pre-trial detention deadlines had expired.

The First Instance Court found Selmani guilty as part of the ‘Duka Clan’, a group that, according to law enforcement, prepared and carried out the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko in August 2019 in the capital. Malko was known as the main collaborator of Ervis Martinaj, for whom there has been no trace since 2022.

Just a few days ago, near his home, which was under surveillance by a large number of officers, Emiljano Nina was arrested with a weapon. Nina is considered a close figure to Ervis Martinaj’s group. This fact has heightened investigators’ suspicions that a revenge attack may have been in preparation.
