Heated session in Parliament, Blushi accuses Rama of national treason and corrupt schemes

A parliamentary session characterized by fierce clashes inside and widespread protests outside the hall turned into an arena of strong accusations from the head of the Freedom Party Group, Tedi Blushi. He described the majority and Prime Minister Edi Rama as a group that hides behind nationalism to cover up moral bankruptcy and the plunder of Albanian citizens.

In his speech, Blushi rejected any claim by the socialists to patriotism, emphasizing that while one may seek heroes in Kosovo, in Albania there are names that represent humiliation and the selling of national interests. According to him, the government has turned into an apparatus for enriching a handful of politicians and criminals.

Taking a cue from George Orwell’s “Animal Farm,” the opposition MP likened the majority members to “fattened pigs.” He declared that they are not only stealing the fruits, but also taking Albanians’ pensions, increasing taxes on basic products, and impoverishing them more than their northern neighbors.

Blushi denounced what he called a direct sabotage of domestic agriculture. He said the market is flooded with flour and powdered milk from Serbia, products used to eliminate Albanian farmers and to buy votes in a clientelist manner.

His speech took an even darker turn when he brought up security affairs. He linked the accusations to the wiretapping scandal of Israeli businessman Ron Yeffet and to the “KAYO” scheme at the Oncology Hospital, claiming that the government is even stealing medicines, pushing patients not toward recovery but toward death. He called these evidence of a government connection to international arms trafficking.

Regarding relations with Kosovo, he described as hypocrisy the socialists’ former support for the “Open Balkan” project and attempts to change borders with Belgrade, as well as the placement of the barrier on the Nation’s Highway.

Finally, Blushi referred to the atmosphere of the Parliament being surrounded by police forces, saying this shows the government’s fear of the citizens who are protesting massively. He stated that patriotism is not measured by photos and speeches, but by deeds and laws; and that this very government is responsible for the departure of 1.5 million Albanians from the country.

He ended his speech without mincing words, calling them traitors to the nation and emphasizing that Albanians will free themselves from this political class to reclaim national dignity.
