High temperatures have led to an increase in health problems among citizens. Skënder Brataj, director of the National Emergency Service, said in an interview with Euronews Albania that in July, emergency teams assisted more than 6,700 people who sought help for heat-related conditions. According to him, an average of more than 500 visits are carried out each day, prompting him to urge people to follow preventive measures.

Brataj explained that dehydration and heatstroke are among the main health concerns. He also warned that children should not be left in vehicles, even if parents think they will be away for only 5-10 minutes, as the temperature inside the car can rise by 20 degrees.
Particular care should also be taken during hot days with people who have heart conditions and patients with chronic illnesses.
“Blood vessels dilate throughout almost the entire body to release heat, but fluids are also lost at the same time,” he said.
For August, doctors recommend a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, adequate fluid intake, and avoiding going outdoors during peak hours. This recommendation applies especially to children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.
