He spoke about Diella at the UN, not Thaçi”, Mediu criticizes Rama: He remained silent on Kosovo and did not challenge Vučić

Republican Party leader Fatmir Mediu has attacked Prime Minister Edi Rama over his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. According to Mediu, Rama failed to use the international forum to speak about Kosovo and the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army who are facing proceedings and sentences before the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

Mediu stresses that the participation of a prime minister or president in the UN General Assembly is not a personal privilege, but an obligation to represent the state and national interests. He says Rama should have addressed Kosovo’s right to its war and independence, as well as its prospects for membership in the UN, NATO and the EU.

The PR leader’s criticism also concerns the speech by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Mediu claims that Vučić tried to cast doubt on the war, Kosovo’s independence and the Serbian genocide, while Albanians, he says, expected Edi Rama to speak about the future of the nation.

Meanwhile, Mediu says Rama chose to focus on artificial intelligence and Albania’s experience with “Diella”. He mocks this approach, saying that three issues dominated the prime minister’s speech, while the topics that, in his view, were of national importance were absent. Mediu calls this “the height of madness, megalomania and hypocrisy”.

He also criticizes the Albanian government’s relations with Serbia, claiming that the Rama–Vučić policy has weakened Kosovo’s position and prospects. In conclusion, Mediu extends his accusation to the way the country is governed, saying it has led to a crisis in the institutions and in the country’s political orientation.

MEDIU’S RESPONSE

The UN convenes once a year at the highest level of world leaders to discuss major geopolitical issues. According to Mediu, the participation of a prime minister or president in these meetings is not connected to the individual’s personal privilege, but to the responsibility to represent the state and its state and national interests.

Mediu says that at this meeting Albanians were represented by Edi Rama and that Kosovo, which is not part of the UN, needed a voice to speak with reason and courage following the Hague court’s decision against the KLA leaders, Kosovo and its future.

According to him, Rama should have spoken about Kosovo’s right to wage war and achieve independence, its prospects in the UN, NATO and the EU, and the importance of this not only for Albanians, but also for the Balkans and the European Union, in the interests of peace and stability.

Mediu considers such a position essential, particularly after the speech by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, whom he describes as Edi Rama’s friend. He claims that Vučić tried to undo Kosovo’s war and independence and deny the Serbian genocide, NATO’s intervention, the killing of thousands of Kosovo Albanians, ethnic cleansing and the rapes committed during the Milošević regime.

The PR leader also recalls that Vučić is the President of Serbia who received Ratko Mladić, a convicted war criminal, with honors and a state ceremony. According to Mediu, these are not Vučić’s personal actions, but part of a strategy devised with his Russian and Chinese allies, together with lobbying and payments aimed at silencing Europe and the United States.

Mediu says Vučić considers Kosovo part of Serbia and will use every political, diplomatic and military means to achieve this goal. He adds that the Serbian president is seeking a strategic partnership with the United States while simultaneously maintaining unchanged relations with Russia and China—something that, in his view, is openly declared and implemented.

According to Mediu, the only head of state who opposed Vučić’s policy and Serbia was the Prime Minister of Croatia. He describes Croatia as the only country in the Balkans to have openly confronted Serbia politically and militarily by rejecting economic, strategic and political relations with it.

By contrast, Mediu claims that under Rama’s government, Albania has directed its Balkan policy toward Serbia’s strategic, economic and geopolitical interests through the joint Rama–Vučić policies. He says this relationship has seriously damaged Kosovo’s weight and future.

“Faced with this situation, all Albanians expected someone to speak about the future of the Nation, and that person should have been Edi Rama,” Mediu says. According to him, Rama presents himself as a patriot in front of Albanians at a dinner organized by the Albanian-American Council, attended by members of the diaspora in America and representatives of the Balkan states where Albanians live, but remains silent before world leaders.

Mediu accuses Rama of declaring America and Joe Biden traitors to Kosovo and Hashim Thaçi, calling this a scandalous stance toward the country that, in his view, is the only one that has supported and can support Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, as well as Kosovo.

He adds that the United States has established its alliance with the NATO countries in the Balkans not only through words, but also through actions. Mediu mentions America’s role in the liberation of Kosovo and Albania’s accession to NATO, claiming that this support is being undone every day by the government in Tirana because of Albanian corruption, crime and political irresponsibility.

According to Mediu, Rama remains silent deliberately because he knows that among Albanians there are people who mistake foolishness for courage and patriotism, regardless of the costs this brings. He claims that these people continue to support and applaud what he calls the destruction of the nation.

Mediu says Rama’s speech at the UN contained only three main issues to be addressed: the claim that he had created the digital “Diella” and was using it to show the world Albania’s progress and technological security in the use of artificial intelligence; the concern that artificial intelligence and “Diellëza”, created by it, could become a threat to the world; and the claim that ordinary Albanians and the “Flamingos”, linked to “external enemies”, had stolen and manipulated the algorithm that Rama, according to Mediu, has long used against the opposition, Albanians and Albania.

“This is the height of madness, megalomania and hypocrisy,” Mediu says, adding that throughout Rama’s technological lecture at the UN, the prime minister did not say a word about Kosovo or Hashim Thaçi and did not make any objection to Vučić. According to him, this shows that Kosovo and its leaders are, for Rama, merely commodities for political and power trading.

The Republican Party leader declares that Albanians have never been as divided and directionless as they are today—in Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro. He attributes this to the fact that Albania, as the mother state, has, in his view, fallen and been brought to its knees, while the way its institutions function, its constitutional and legal framework, and its national security architecture would provoke envy even in the countries of the Third World, which he calls “Banana Republics”.

Mediu stresses that Albania’s enemy today is not an algorithm or artificial intelligence, but its own government, the power of crime and corruption. According to him, the Albanian cause faces political irresponsibility, a struggle for power rather than for the state, and efforts to serve those in power instead of Albanians, without respecting any limits and while violating every national interest.

“If you want to defeat Albanians, let them keep fighting among themselves,” Fatmir Mediu concludes his response.
