Haxhiu meets von der Leyen: Calls for opening the European path and support in the appeal process

Albulena Haxhiu, acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, today received European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a meeting.

During the conversation, they discussed recent political developments in the country and the need to elect the president within the remaining deadline, reports “Bota sot”.

Haxhiu expressed her concern and that of Kosovo’s citizens regarding the unjust decision of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

She stressed that Kosovo’s institutions will continue to support the defense teams of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi in the appeal process. According to her, they will engage in a joint state strategy, coordinating actions with defense teams and experts so that the support serves them as effectively as possible in this process.

She went on to emphasize that the European Union should examine Kosovo’s application for membership, submitted on 14 December 2022, and called for President von der Leyen’s direct involvement in this matter.

Haxhiu also addressed the implementation of the Growth Plan and the reforms awaiting the country. She recalled that Kosovo has submitted the Reform Agenda, ratified the relevant agreements and has begun to benefit from pre-financing.
