Hashim Thaçi’s defense asks the Special Court for conditional release, offers a 50,000-euro guarantee

The defense of former president Hashim Thaçi has submitted a request to the Special Court in The Hague for his conditional release.

According to this request, Thaçi is not considered a flight risk, while a financial guarantee worth 50,000 euros has also been presented for his release.

The filing states: “The defense of Mr. Hashim Thaçi (“the Defense”) hereby submits through this filing its arguments in the context of the detention review, in accordance with Article 41(6) and (10) of the Law,¹ Rules 56 and 57 of the Rules,² as well as the order of the Single Trial Judge (“STJ”).³

The request also emphasizes: “The Defense requests that the STJ order the temporary release of Mr. Thaçi, among other things, on the grounds that he does not pose a flight risk, particularly in light of the financial guarantee of 50,000 euros offered to secure his release,⁴ and that the continuation of his detention is no longer reasonable or proportionate,” the request from the defense of former president Hashim Thaçi states, among other things.
