Haradinaj commemorates victims of the massacre in Upper Abri: 23 members of the Deliu family were killed by Serbian forces

AAK Chairman Ramush Haradinaj has commemorated the massacre carried out in Upper Abri, where 28 years ago Serbian forces killed 23 members of the Deliu family, including infants.

Haradinaj said the event remains one of the deepest wounds in Kosovo’s history. According to him, the victims were innocent Albanians who wanted to live freely in their own country.

“On this anniversary of the Upper Abri massacre, we remember with great pain the tragedy that left an indelible mark on our history. Twenty-eight years ago, Serbian forces committed a barbaric crime against the Deliu family, executing 23 of its members, from a baby just a few months old to a 94-year-old man,” he wrote.

He also highlighted teacher Vesel Demaku and his students, Valdet Xhemajli and Afrim Hajdari, who were killed while fighting the enemy.

“The brave teacher Vesel Demaku, together with his two students, Valdet Xhemajli and Afrim Hajdari, fell heroically in confrontation with the enemy, defending freedom until their final breath,” Haradinaj’s statement said.

The AAK leader stressed that the occupation cost Kosovo ethnic cleansing, destruction and massive loss of life, but added that the desire for freedom and independence was never broken.

“Our will for freedom and independence never wavered. Eternal glory to the martyrs of Abri and to all those who gave their lives for the homeland!” Haradinaj declared.
