Halilaj on the blockade of the Assembly: The issues of Thaçi, Veseli and the KLA must not be turned into electoral tools

Lawyer Gazmend Halilaj spoke to “Bota sot” about the obstacles to constituting the Assembly, stressing that the functioning of institutions must not be subordinated to the interests of political parties.

According to him, the situation that has emerged cannot be viewed merely as an ordinary political conflict between political entities.

Halilaj stressed that when political clashes obstruct the work of institutions, the consequences affect the entire country and its citizens. He added that the PDK and the other opposition parties must understand clearly that the Assembly belongs to no political force and cannot be used for partisan purposes.

The lawyer called for the citizens’ vote to be respected and for the process of making the institutions functional to be completed without delays or conditional agreements.

Another concern he raised was the possibility that the blockade could be part of a political plan to lead Kosovo toward new elections.

Halilaj warned that using an emotional and historic moment for political gains would constitute an irresponsible approach toward the state.

He particularly emphasized that issues related to Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli and former KLA members must not be used for electoral calculations. According to him, the sacrifice and the KLA’s war are part of Kosovo’s history and cannot be turned into an instrument of a party’s interests.

During his statement, Halilaj also addressed the election result, calling on the parties that have governed for years to accept the new political reality.

He stated that LVV had received the citizens’ trust and that this will cannot be disregarded through blockades, deals or political maneuvers.

Halilaj added that if anyone seeks to weaken LVV or change the citizens’ will through an institutional crisis, the citizens themselves should give the answer at the ballot box.

The lawyer said that he would continue to strongly support LVV, as he believes that Kosovo needs a new kind of politics, not a return to the old mentality of deals, positions and partisan interests.

“Kosovo must not be held hostage by anyone. The citizens’ will must come before every partisan calculation,” Halilaj concluded in his statement to “Bota sot”.
