Grenell enters debate over president, Salihaj reveals the motive he sees behind support for six LDK lawmakers

Former LDK lawmaker Adem Salihaj has reacted with concern to Richard Grenell’s public involvement in recent political developments in Kosovo. Grenell has voiced his support for six LDK lawmakers who have announced that they will not vote for Bekim Sejdiu as president.

In a statement to “Bota sot,” Salihaj said Grenell’s position cannot be viewed merely as personal support for several LDK legislators. In his assessment, the intervention is intended to fuel divisions over the LDK-LVV agreement and prevent Kosovo’s institutions from being constituted.

He claims that the public support for the six lawmakers is aimed at preventing the implementation of the agreement between the two parties, leaving the country to remain in an institutional crisis.

“Grenell’s intervention is intended to encourage LDK lawmakers not to support the LDK-LVV agreement. The ultimate goal is to prevent the constitution of Kosovo’s institutions and prolong the institutional crisis, which harms Kosovo both internally and externally,” Salihaj said.

Salihaj also criticized the fact that some LDK representatives are receiving public support from Grenell. According to him, such support should not be a reason for them to feel good.

“Grenell’s motives are clear: he sides with Serbia and is trying to harm Kosovo. Avdullah Hoti and the other lawmakers should not feel good about receiving support from a man like Grenell, because it is publicly known that he is a man paid by Serbia and honored with a high state decoration by Serbian President Vučić for the services he has rendered to the Serbian state and politics,” he said.

According to Salihaj, the clashes over the election of the president should also be viewed in the context of a broader political struggle over the future direction of Kosovo’s institutions.

He stressed that opposition to Prime Minister Albin Kurti should be pursued through democratic mechanisms and the citizens’ vote, rather than by obstructing the functioning of institutions.

“The fight to remove Kurti from power should be waged through the electorate’s vote, not through obstruction of the institutions. Before harming Kurti, this way of fighting harms Kosovo’s interests,” Salihaj concluded in his remarks to “Bota sot.”
