Gostivar, 159 of 317 water samples outside the required parameters

From January 1 to August 12, 2026, 317 drinking water samples were tested in the Gostivar region. The overall results show that 159 of them, or 50.2%, were declared unsuitable, while 158 met the criteria.

These data were published by the Tetovo Center for Public Health – Gostivar Unit and show that nearly every second sample analyzed this year was unsuitable.

The irregularities did not occur in the same way in all settlements. Microbiological problems were encountered more frequently, while deviations from physicochemical parameters were also recorded at certain points. Some samples showed problems in both respects.

Repeated unsuitable results were recorded in Vrapčište, Debreše, Zubovce, Galate, Toplicë, Dobërdoll, Negotinë, Gradec, Novo Sello, Vërtok and Pozharanë. In some of these areas, the samples failed to meet the criteria during more than one period of the year.

The list of locations where problems recurred includes Vrapčište, Zubovce, Galate, Toplicë, Dobërdoll, Negotinë, Vërtok and Pozharanë.

A particularly notable situation was recorded in Galičnik on July 7. Several points inspected that day, including a public fountain, the “Neda” hotel, a restaurant and other locations, were found to be microbiologically unsuitable.

On the other hand, the analyses show that there was improvement in some areas during the summer. In the city of Gostivar, most of the samples taken at the end of July and in the first days of August were assessed as suitable.

The most recent inspections, carried out on August 12, 2026, at seven different points, also produced positive results: all 7 samples, or 7 out of 7, were suitable both microbiologically and physicochemically.

Despite this improvement, the overall balance remains concerning, with 159 unsuitable samples out of a total of 317 analyzed. The figures do not mean that water throughout the region is unsafe for consumption, but they show that recurring problems have emerged in a considerable number of settlements and testing points.
