Glauk Konjufca acquitted again in tear gas case at the Assembly

The Basic Court in Pristina has acquitted Glauk Konjufca as part of the retrial over the throwing of tear gas in the Assembly chamber.

The decision was announced today, August 28, after the judicial review concluded. The news was reported by “Betimi për Drejtësi” and broadcast by Klankosova.tv.

Konjufca was facing charges of “Use of a weapon or dangerous means” over the incident of August 10, 2016, when tear gas was thrown in the Assembly chamber.

During the retrial, the Prosecution had requested that he be found guilty and given an appropriate sentence, claiming that his actions constituted a criminal offense.

The defense, meanwhile, had asked the court to issue an acquittal, arguing that it had not been proven beyond reasonable doubt that Konjufca had committed the offense of which he was accused.

During the retrial, Konjufca had declared that he was innocent and had chosen to remain silent.

This is the second time that the Basic Court in Pristina has acquitted Konjufca of this charge. The first acquittal was issued on February 26, 2024, but the Court of Appeals annulled it and remanded the case for retrial.

As for the other charge, that of “Obstructing an official person in the performance of official duties,” the criminal prosecution had become time-barred.

According to the indictment, on August 10, 2016, during a session in the Assembly chamber, Konjufca threw tear gas. As a result, the session was interrupted and those present left the chamber.
