Giorgos Mazonakis’s decisive minutes revealed, from the start of the plasmapheresis machine to the emergency call

Hellenic Police have obtained the complete digital log of the plasmapheresis machine’s operation, data that are being used in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis.

The traces left by the device document the entire course of the procedure: the machine’s activation, the start of the blood exchange, the suspension of treatment, the repeated alarms and the attempt to restart it.

According to the Hellenic Police investigation and a report by protothema.gr, the machine was activated at 14:14, but the blood exchange with the patient had not yet begun at that point.

Police data, combined with the testimony of the taxi driver who transported the singer, suggest that Mazonakis had arrived at the clinic at around 13:50-14:00.

The system’s first alarm appeared at 14:23, nine minutes after the machine was activated. Investigators believe this signal may have been triggered by a problem with the tubing, including a kink in one of the tubes, or by a change in the patient’s blood pressure.

The blood exchange procedure itself began at 14:37. For the investigation, this is an important objective point, as it indicates when the treatment began and will be verified through video footage, photographs, testimony and other electronic data.

The first interruption of the process was recorded at 15:22, marking the most critical point in the machine’s timeline.

After that time, the device recorded a series of alarms. The authorities are analyzing these signals to understand the patient’s condition at that moment, as well as how the medical staff responded.

By 15:45, the machine had registered three more alarms. According to the data being reviewed by investigators, these alerts coincided with the absence of a heartbeat.

Particular attention is also being paid to what occurred at 15:45. Following the successive alarms, the machine was instructed to resume operation, but it shut itself down immediately after this attempt.

It is precisely this digital record that the authorities are verifying as they seek to determine what signal the device was transmitting and why the treatment did not continue.

The recorded timeline is as follows:

14:14 – The plasmapheresis machine is activated, without the blood exchange beginning.

14:23 – The system records the first alarm.

14:37 – The blood exchange and the main phase of treatment begin.

15:22 – The first interruption of the procedure is recorded.

15:22-15:45 – The machine records three more alarms, which, according to the investigation data, coincide with the absence of a heartbeat.

15:45 – An attempt is made to restart the machine.

Immediately after 15:45 – The device shuts itself down almost immediately after restarting.

16:11 – Emergency services are called.

Forty-nine minutes elapsed between the first suspension of treatment at 15:22 and the call for emergency assistance at 16:11. During this interval, the machine recorded the repeated alarms and the unsuccessful attempt to restart it.

The authorities are now comparing this digital timeline with the other evidence gathered during the investigation to determine when Mazonakis’s condition deteriorated and what measures were taken at the clinic.
