Gërvalla announces committee approval of six draft laws on justice reform

Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla announced that the Legislation Committee had approved the Draft Law on the State Bureau and the five draft laws comprising the Justice Reform Package.

According to her, the six draft laws address fundamental issues in the justice system of the Republic of Kosovo: combating unjustified wealth, the integrity and accountability of judges and prosecutors, strengthening the Councils, and reinforcing the Academy of Justice.

Gërvalla described these draft laws as the foundation of the profound reform to which, she said, a commitment had been made to citizens. She emphasized that citizens had been waiting for this reform for many years and that the rule of law, at every level, would not remain merely a promise.

Following the joint and uninterrupted work of the institutions of the justice system, as well as their approval by the Government and subsequently by the Legislation Committee, the six draft laws are, according to the minister, one step away from reaching the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Gërvalla expressed confidence that the Assembly would support the State Bureau and the Justice Reform Package, saying that justice reform must and would become a reality.
