General Prosecutor’s Office opposes bill on magistrates’ salaries: Unjustified disparities envisaged

The General Prosecutor’s Office has sent the Albanian Parliament its official position on the bill establishing magistrates’ salaries.

In a letter, the institution explains that its assessment was based on the text of the bill published on the Parliament’s official website in July 2026, as well as on public discussions, since a formal draft was not officially forwarded to it for consultation.

According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the bill “On some additions and amendments to Law No. 96/2016 ‘On the status of judges and prosecutors in the Republic of Albania’” does not, in principle, guarantee the full and effective implementation of Decision No. 15, dated 17/02/2026, of the Constitutional Court, or of the constitutional standards established therein.

The institution also assesses that the legislative initiative creates unjustified and disharmonious disparities among the different levels of courts and prosecution offices.
