Fortunate reversal in the sky: SpaceX breaks the 13th curse with perfect Starship landing

A wave of enthusiasm swept through the SpaceX team as their giant spacecraft Starship successfully touched the ocean waters, marking a new chapter in the challenges of test flights. Dan Huot, the company’s spokesperson, couldn’t hide his excitement as live footage continued even during the final moments of descent. “It’s a dream scenario,” he said, emphasizing that this was the first time the company had managed to bring a completely intact Starship to the water.

The test called Flight 13 brought a successful conclusion for the mega-rocket, just days after a failed launch where several engines had not activated properly. According to CNN reports, during this test, several crucial technical achievements were made before the upper section of the ship ended its journey with a controlled descent into the Indian Ocean.

A similar fate befell the powerful Super Heavy booster, which separated from Starship about two minutes after liftoff and precisely executed a controlled landing in the Persian Gulf. Reflecting on superstitions and the success achieved, Huot added with humor: “Number 13 is good luck.” This was exactly the 13th test of a fully integrated Starship system with the Super Heavy carrier rocket.

This mission was also the second test for the new generation of the ship, the Starship V3 version. The first test, conducted in May, was compromised by a series of engine defects that significantly reduced performance and led to mission failure. The current success comes at a delicate moment for the company, which is facing immense pressure to prepare Starship for a key NASA test flight planned for next year. This step is seen as essential to pave the way for future missions to the surface of the Moon.

This flight also marked SpaceX’s debut as a publicly traded company. The failure of last week’s attempt had hit its shares, which continue to remain below the initial public offering (IPO) price.
