Jola Hysaj, the former Secretary for Public Relations of the Democratic Party, has reacted in a social media post to the protest held in Tirana, describing it not as hope for the country, but as “a black cloud” hanging over Albania.
She says that for 13 years she has taken part in protests against the government and against Edi Rama, but stresses that this protest has aroused her suspicions from day one. According to Hysaj, the real grievances of citizens are being used by the organizers for interests that, in her view, have nothing to do with solving their problems.

In her reaction, Hysaj writes: “Something bad is being played out here, Albania is being struck below the belt, and not only will Edi Rama not leave because of this dirty game, but time will show that Edi Rama will push all of these people out of the game.”
Jola Hysaj’s full post:
I have been part of protests for 13 years. With the Democratic Party against Edi Rama, just to be clear, because I know that in these times of “protesters” with family record books, they will come after this post of mine. I don’t mind, because it won’t be the first time, but please, just don’t call me a patronage worker, because I can’t stand them!
Now forgive me, but what is this leftist sister from Italy doing here in Albania? The problem is that I, who am right-wing and cannot stomach this protest at all, feel bad that apparently Albania has been left to be saved by this communist woman from Italy! Oh yes, together with some little Greens from Germany and the Netherlands, who want Albania to be a natural reserve for tourists who bring their own food! Never mind that Albanians earn only a crust of bread from this kind of tourism! But why shouldn’t we have the right to have luxury resorts, like the ones all the bloggers and artists of the protest go to, those who cry here over the flamingos, while posting smiling photos from 10,000-euro-a-night suites in Dubai or the Maldives?!
Why can’t there also be an “island” in Durrës like the Palm (which we could make into an eagle in Albanian if you part-time patriots want), and instead we are supposed to be happy with the “all-inclusives” of Golem, where hotels are fighting for survival by catering to masses of tourists from the East who bring more environmental burden than meaningful income to the economy?! Then fine, okay, environmentalism, because I care about that too and I held my own protests in Durrës against the cancerous garbage dump that was finally shut down. But what does environmentalism have to do with the flag of Israel and with the screams of that other sister from Kosovo, who brought to the boulevard the light of her spiritual leader Ayatollah Khamenei?!
May God protect us from this dangerous hysteria, because none of these people has any chance of loving Albania more than I do, and in this protest I can truly feel the hands pulling the strings of this uproar! Those hands do not want to move Albania forward, that is very clear. Nor do they want to solve the problems of the people who sympathize with this protest; they simply want to use those problems to turn Albania into mush all over again.
I, who protested for 13 years over those problems and grew up and became a mother at protests, have viewed this protest with great suspicion from day one. But today I see it as a black cloud, not as a ray of light over Albania! This very communist sister who has come from Italy to save us, together with the Qorras and the Lapajs and some so-called nameless young people with felt caps on their heads, completely convinces me of that black cloud.
Citizens not only have the right to protest, they have a duty to demand more. But here, their demands are not at all what this Italian sister and her organizer brothers of that vacuum-like crowd in Tirana care about.
Something bad is being played out here, Albania is being struck below the belt, and not only will Edi Rama not leave because of this dirty game, but time will show that Edi Rama will push all of these people out of the game. But Albania will pay the cost of the game! Therefore, anyone who truly loves a European Albania should not only stay away, but should also “sabotage” this dirty game of political hyenas and geopolitical wolves with their own words! I left the Democratic Party when I saw that the alternative to Edi Rama had become Molotov cocktails thrown for pay and garbage bins set on fire. This protest, with so much poison and devilry, where there is not a failed public figure left who has not appeared on screen to take part, is making Edi Rama seem to me like the most normal person in this dizzying dance over Albania. God forgive me if I am wrong, but when I also see some worms from the Renaissance and communist rot from the Socialist Party joining the protest, then I feel closer to Edi Rama’s Albania 2030 than to the Albania of this circus, where the troubled are represented by fools!
