Forest fires in the country reach 138 cases, with damage exceeding 4 million euros

This year, 138 fires have been recorded in forested areas across the country, according to data from the public enterprise “National Forests.” The flames have engulfed hundreds of hectares, while the damage caused through the end of July is estimated at more than 4 million euros.

Although the number of cases is considered average compared with recent years, the damage has been significantly lower than in previous periods. In 2024, it exceeded 83 million euros, while in 2025, damage of more than 50 million euros was recorded.

The causes of the fires vary: some are suspected to have been deliberately started, while others resulted from negligence. In the area near the village of Biglla, the fire engulfed more than 200 hectares of forest.

A full assessment of the affected areas will be carried out after the summer season ends. It will then be determined which areas need to be cleared and where the forest may recover on its own through natural regeneration.

The authorities are calling on citizens to exercise increased caution, emphasizing the serious consequences caused by fires in forested areas.
