Following 7.4-Magnitude Earthquake in Colombia, World Leaders Pledge Aid: “We Are Ready to Mobilize Whenever Needed

Following the powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia, several world leaders have said they are ready to provide concrete assistance, including rescue teams, doctors, trained dogs and search-and-rescue equipment.

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele said he was in contact with the Colombian authorities and that his country could provide immediate assistance.

According to Bukele, El Salvador is able to send rescue teams, medical personnel, paramedics and supplies, as well as any other support that the Colombian authorities may request.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa Azin also expressed his country’s readiness to take part in rescue efforts.

The assistance offered by Ecuador includes 47 rescuers, specialized dogs and equipment, which can be deployed in the field for up to seven days.

“We are ready to mobilize whenever you need us,” Noboa wrote on social media.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also confirmed her support, saying that Mexico would stand by Colombia if assistance was needed.

“Of course, whatever support the people of Colombia may need, we will be there,” Sheinbaum said.

The heads of state issued their responses following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake, as authorities and emergency teams continue working to address the impact of the tremor.

Colombian pop star Shakira was also among those who responded, saying that her thoughts were with “everyone who felt this earthquake today.”

The singer expressed solidarity with “the families going through moments of distress” and sent them “strength and love for my homeland.”

“At times like these, we Colombians know how to come together and support one another. Let us hold each other close and stay tuned to official guidance so that we can help as quickly as possible,” she wrote on X.
