Flames engulf area above Bogovina Lake in the Sharr Mountains; authorities say there is no danger to the forests

A fire broke out today in the area above Bogovina Lake, located in the Sharr Mountains, but according to the relevant authorities, the incident poses no threat to the area’s forested land.

The Regional Crisis Management Center in Tetovo reported that at around 11:54 a.m., the Tetovo Territorial Firefighting Unit reported the presence of a fire in the area above Bogovina Lake, within the Sharr Mountain massif.

Immediately after receiving the report, the regional crisis authorities notified Sharr Mountain National Park of the situation.

The national park said it was already aware of the incident and that the fire had spread to pastureland in an area where access is extremely difficult, specifically in the border zone separating North Macedonia from Kosovo.

Representatives of the national park also said that the flames would be continuously monitored, but that intervention at the scene was not possible because of the impassable terrain. According to the information available to them, the fire currently poses no danger to the region’s forest areas.
