First images from inside Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s compound after the attack, Iran releases footage of total destruction

For the first time, Iranian state media have released footage from inside Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s compound, showing the severe damage left behind by the US-Israeli airstrike in March.

The video, about 50 seconds long, shows piles of debris, collapsed ceilings, bent support beams and doors destroyed by the force of the blast.

According to reports, the heaviest damage was recorded at the Imam Khomeini Husseiniya, the hall within the compound where official meetings, religious ceremonies and public speeches by the supreme leader were held.

The footage shows spaces covered in dust and rubble, while large parts of the building appear to have suffered serious damage.

Until now, the condition of the compound had only been documented through satellite images, with no footage released from inside the facility.

The release of the video comes as days of mourning for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei continue in Iran. Gatherings and processions have been held in several cities across the country, while thousands of worshippers also took part in memorial ceremonies in the Shiite holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq, ahead of funeral ceremonies in Iran.

Moments of tension were also reported at some of these ceremonies, as participants tried to get closer to the coffin, forcing organizers to intervene to prevent incidents.
