Fire brought under control in Cërrik; 2 hectares of land and around 250 olive trees burned

Firefighters have managed to extinguish a large fire in the Malasejt area of Cërrik, preventing the flames from advancing toward homes and an important source of the city’s water supply.

The fire engulfed an area of around 2 hectares and caused considerable material damage. According to reports, around 250 olive trees were burned by the flames.

The fire’s proximity to several homes and the water reservoir supplying Cërrik made the situation particularly concerning. The flames posed a direct threat to these facilities, but the timely response by the firefighting service enabled the fire to be contained and extinguished.

Eleven firefighters and 3 firefighting vehicles took part in the operation. They worked to neutralize the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas.

Preliminary data raise suspicions that the flames may have been caused by an electrical spark from a power line. However, the definitive cause is expected to be determined after the relevant investigations are completed.

Although the fire grew considerably and posed a risk to homes and the water-supply infrastructure, the firefighters’ intervention halted its advance toward populated areas.

After the flames were extinguished, the teams involved continued monitoring the area to ensure that the hotspots would not reignite.
