Fire at Vlora hotel, police: Flames caused by refrigerator socket

A fire that engulfed a hotel in Vlora’s “10 Korriku” neighborhood, owned by citizen M. A., was accidentally caused by the burning of an electrical socket connected to a refrigerator in the building’s restaurant.

According to the preliminary report from the Vlora Police, the incident occurred at around 4:05 a.m. inside the hotel. To determine the cause, the investigative team examined security camera footage and carried out the necessary procedures at the scene.

Six holidaymakers were injured as a result of the fire: five of them are citizens of Kosovo, while one is from Rrëshen. Five of those injured were taken to the Burns Hospital in Tirana for specialized treatment, where two suffered significant burns to their bodies. Another injured person is receiving treatment at the Vlora Regional Hospital.

The flames also caused considerable material damage to the hotel premises. Under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, the investigative team is continuing procedures to fully document the circumstances of the incident in accordance with the law.
