Fire at the “Brooklyn” Hotel / Doctor in Vlora: Patient with Burns on Nearly 100% of Her Body Is in Life-Threatening Condition

Six people injured in the fire that engulfed the “Brooklyn” Hotel on the Lungomare promenade were admitted to the Regional Hospital of Vlora in the early hours of the morning. The head of the Intensive Care Unit, Edmond Breshanaj, provided an update on their condition.

According to the doctor, at around 4:30 a.m., hospital staff were placed on full alert following the arrival of the patients, who were aged between 25 and 30 and came from Prishtina, Lipjan and Rrëshen.

Breshanaj said that the injured people had been on the second floor of the building, while three of them had suffered severe burns. Two others jumped from the second floor and sustained spinal fractures.

“It was a very serious emergency situation. There were six patients injured by exposure. They were on the second floor. Three had suffered severe burns and two had jumped from the second floor, sustaining spinal fractures,” the head of the Intensive Care Unit said.

One of the patients is in critical condition after suffering burns to nearly 100% of her body. Another patient has burns covering 50% of her body.

“One patient whose life is at risk had burns covering nearly 100% of her body, while another had burns covering 50%. We sent two of them to the Trauma Center because they had no burns, while three others were sent to the plastic surgery burns unit in Tirana,” Breshanaj said.

The fire broke out in a building whose ground floor housed a restaurant, while the second floor had been converted into a hotel. The flames spread rapidly and dense smoke blocked the exits, forcing some holidaymakers to jump from their room windows to escape the fire.
