Feraj: Prime Minister Kurti trusts the US as a partner, while the opposition shows distrust of this alliance

Political analyst Hysamedin Feraj has laid out his views on relations between Kosovo and the United States, stressing that the main gap between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the opposition forces lies precisely in trust in the alliance with the US. According to him, the current government sees the United States as true partners, while the opposition does not share the same conviction.

Feraj emphasizes that with this unwavering conviction, Kurti managed to extend state authority, the legal system, and the fight against corruption to the northern municipalities of Kosovo, which previously operated under Serbian jurisdiction. He argues that the US has considered these steps as legitimate for an independent state, in line with the recognition it has granted Kosovo.

On the other hand, the analyst accuses the opposition parties of not believing that Washington truly respects Kosovo’s sovereignty and its decision to recognize it as a state. As a result of this mistrust, the opposition has opposed every initiative of the executive to establish full control in the north, relying on the illusion that this approach would make them more liked by the US.

Going further, Feraj accuses the opposition of fostering a distorted perception, as if American support should be used to give Serbia what it wants. He describes this as an absurd paradox, adding that it seems as if Serbia does not agree to take what it wants, and therefore the alliance with the US is needed to fulfill its demands.

To illustrate this approach, Feraj recalls the cases of former leaders of the country. He mentions that Hashim Thaçi and others were received at the White House seeking support for the de jure partition of Kosovo in favor of Serbia. While Avdullah Hoti, according to him, visited the same place to sign an agreement that gave Serbia the right to co-administer Kosovo’s strategic resources.
