Fatos Lubonja: In a normal democracy, Rama would have resigned, while the Socialist Party would have expelled him; discontent will broaden the protests

Well-known analyst Fatos Lubonja, speaking as a guest on News24, commented on the political developments in the country and the mass protests taking place against Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government.

The analyst said that, in a functioning democratic state, Rama should have left office long ago. According to him, the Socialist Party should also have expelled him, taking into account the numerous scandals that have affected the government.

“In a normal democratic state, the prime minister should have resigned several times, and his party should have expelled him for all the things that have come to light, starting with the scandals one after another—from the incinerators, Ahmetaj, Balluku, AKSHI, to Aruba, and so on,” Lubonja said.

He stressed that the lack of accountability and impunity, in his view, are indications that Albania is under a “criminal regime.”

Speaking about the protests and the civic movement, Lubonja predicted that the situation could take a new direction in the coming days.

He also said that growing public discontent should be channeled into this “river of protest,” which is expected to expand in the face of the country’s existential crisis, with Albania’s mass depopulation remaining the main concern.
