“Fall or Resign”/Seventh Week of Protests, Citizens Demand Rama’s Resignation

Yesterday, the civic movement that has filled the street outside the government headquarters entered its 47th consecutive day, turning the area into the main focal point of opposition to the Rama administration and the political spectrum as a whole.

Initially sparked by plans to intervene in the protected area of Zvërnec, the initiative has now evolved into a broad civic front with demands that go beyond the original issue.

Evening after evening, participants from the capital and various districts gather at Skanderbeg Square before marching toward the Prime Minister’s Office.

There, from an improvised podium, calls are repeatedly heard for Prime Minister Edi Rama to step down and for a fundamental reform of the system of governance.

During the rally the previous evening, citizens stressed that the movement would not retreat and that the resistance would remain alive until its demands were met.

From the podium set up opposite the Prime Minister’s Office, it became clear that the anger is no longer directed simply at the current cabinet, but at a model of doing politics which, in the protesters’ view, has paralyzed the country for more than three decades.

The messages of the previous evening focused on the sustainability of the action, the role of the younger generation in this wave of opposition, and the call for even stronger mobilization in the days ahead.

Protesters said there would be no interruption and that the gatherings would be repeated every day, describing this as an essential effort for social transformation.
