Extreme heat returns to North Macedonia, meteorologists warn

After a short period of cool weather, the weather in North Macedonia is stabilizing again, bringing sunny days and rising temperatures.

The Hydro-Meteorological Directorate reports that tomorrow will be characterized by clear skies and light to moderate cloudiness, with a light to moderate northerly wind. The morning will be relatively cool, but during the day the thermometer will again reach the usual seasonal levels.

Maxima across the territory will range between 30 and 37 degrees Celsius. The capital Skopje will have clear weather, light wind from the north, and temperatures around 35 degrees.

Meteorologists warn that this calm will be temporary. Starting Tuesday, a new heat wave will engulf the country, and by midweek Skopje will register 35-38 degrees Celsius, with a heat index above 40 degrees. In the hottest areas, the thermometer may touch or exceed the 40-degree mark.

The 11:00-17:00 time slot will remain the hottest period of the day. Health experts advise citizens, especially the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, children, and pregnant women, to avoid prolonged exposure to open spaces during these hours.

Specialists recommend frequent water intake, wearing light and light-colored clothing, and avoiding physical exertion during peak heat hours.
