Extraordinary inspections into treatment of 19-year-old woman from Strumica completed

The Ministry of Health announced that the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate has completed extraordinary inspections at the institutions where patient S.M. was examined, gave birth and continued her treatment.

The inspections were conducted at Strumica General Hospital, Shtip Clinical Hospital and the University Clinic of Neurology. During the process, health records and medical documentation were reviewed, while statements were also taken from the healthcare personnel involved in treating the patient.

Due to the 19-year-old’s serious health complications, it was decided that an expert review would also be carried out covering the entire course of her delivery and subsequent treatment.

The commission will consist of specialist doctors in neurology, anesthesiology, gynecology, radiology and neurosurgery.

To ensure that the assessment is comprehensive, independent and objective, the Minister of Health requested the involvement of a medical expert from a neighboring country. The expert will review all of the patient’s medical documentation together with the commission and contribute to drafting the professional opinion on the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed.

The Ministry of Health stated that, once the expert review is completed, the public will be informed of its findings and conclusions.
