Execution of 25-year-old Albanian in Italy on February 14: autopsy identifies fatal wound as investigation reveals motives and suspected perpetrators

The autopsy report has shed light on the death of Kevin Muharremi, the 25-year-old Albanian who was killed during the night of February 14 in Montecalvoli, part of the municipality of Santa Maria a Monte in Italy.

The forensic report prepared by Marco Di Paolo determined that only one of the bullets fired from a 6.35-caliber Beretta semi-automatic pistol caused the young man’s death. The bullet struck Muharremi on the right side of the neck and severely damaged his spinal cord in the area of the C2 and C3 vertebrae.

The injury severed the nerve pathways, causing respiratory paralysis and internal bleeding. These consequences led to the immediate death of the 25-year-old.

The autopsy was carried out on March 13 on the orders of Pisa prosecutor Fabio Pelosi, who is leading the investigation into the case. The examination’s findings were recently filed in the relevant report.

Renato Xyke, a 20-year-old Albanian who lives in Santa Maria a Monte and has been held in prison since the day of the crime, is accused of the murder. He was arrested in Arezzo while leaving with his family in a Range Rover Evoque.

Investigators suspect that the shots at Muharremi were fired from this vehicle. Xyke has not denied shooting in the direction of the victim, who was sitting in the passenger seat of a white Fiat Doblò and was later found dead.

According to the reconstruction so far, the incident was the tragic culmination of a conflict between two groups of Albanians. The confrontation had begun several hours before the murder, although investigators believe the disputes may have originated even earlier.

The first incident was recorded inside a bar in the Capanne di Montopoli area before moving to its parking lot. It is suspected that the parties continued communicating by phone afterward, until the fatal meeting on Viale della Repubblica, where the execution took place.

Forensic analysis determined that another bullet grazed Kevin Muharremi’s right forearm and wrist. However, this wound had no impact on his death.

At least six bullets were fired at the crime scene. This is also indicated by the bullet holes found in the front section of the Fiat Doblò.

Renato Xyke is not the only person being investigated in connection with the incident. An 18-year-old Albanian from Montecalvoli was also traveling in the same vehicle with him, and is being investigated while free.

The 18-year-old voluntarily appeared before the Prosecutor’s Office, accompanied by his lawyer, where he gave his account of what happened. Italian authorities are continuing their investigation to clarify all the circumstances of the crime before the case moves to a preliminary court hearing.
