Europe under African heatwave, Gjoni explains the impact on the continent and temperatures in Albania

In recent days, the European continent has been gripped by a powerful heatwave of African origin, described by international meteorological agencies as a “heat dome.”

In a report from the “Ora News” studio, forecaster Anira Gjoni, referring to IGJEUM forecasts, said the countries most affected by this extreme situation are Spain, Britain and especially France. According to her, France is experiencing the heaviest blow, recording historic high temperatures for the month of June. The mass of hot air is also expected to gradually extend toward Central Europe and Germany.

Albania, however, lies on the edge of this intense scorching wave. Despite this, thermal anomalies are being observed in the country, with maximum temperatures of up to 36 degrees Celsius, or around 3 to 6 degrees above the long-term average for this period. Tropical nighttime conditions are also being recorded, as minimum temperatures remain at 21 degrees, values similar to those usually seen in July. Light and isolated rainfall may occur in the afternoons in hilly and mountainous areas, but it is not expected to bring any drop in temperatures.

This unusual weather pattern is also accompanied by the presence of considerable amounts of Saharan dust in the air. According to the explanation, the situation is the result of a combination of factors, with climate change making these phenomena more intense, while the natural “El Nino” phenomenon, which has begun activity in the Pacific, is contributing to the rise in the global average temperature.

Experts at the Institute of Geosciences warn that this summer is expected to be just as hot as last year’s. According to long-term forecasts and the continued increase in El Nino activity, 2027 is expected to break all previous records and be classified as the year with the hottest summer in history.
