EU allocates 710 million euros for people affected by crises and natural disasters

The European Union will allocate 710 million euros to help people affected by crises, natural disasters and conflicts, with most of the funds going to communities in Africa.

The news was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during her address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“Conflicts, extreme weather events and the rising cost of living are upending the lives of many people around the world,” von der Leyen said.

According to her, this assistance will support displaced communities across Africa, as well as the communities hosting them.

In sub-Saharan Africa, the EU will invest around 380 million euros to fund programs related to migration.

According to the European Commission, these programs will focus on protecting vulnerable migrants, supporting voluntary returns and helping them reintegrate.

The aid package also includes 252 million euros in emergency support for individuals and communities affected by conflicts, displacement, epidemics and natural disasters.

Of this amount, 97 million euros will go to populations in sub-Saharan Africa, 103 million euros to the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, while 52 million euros will be allocated to Ukraine, with the aim of helping prepare for the coming winter.
