Erenik in Junik to Become the First River in Kosovo Rehabilitated Using Nature-Based Solutions

The Erenik River in Junik is expected to become the first river in Kosovo to be rehabilitated using nature-based solutions, acting Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Fitore Pacolli-Dalipi has announced.

In a Facebook post, Pacolli-Dalipi explained that the project includes removing concrete structures in order to restore the river and the surrounding area to their natural state.

“Junik’s Erenik will be the first river in Kosovo to be freed from the stranglehold of concrete and fully rehabilitated through Nature-Based Solutions, restoring all of the area’s natural magic,” she wrote.

To determine the next steps toward implementing the project, the acting minister met with the mayor of Junik Municipality, Ruzhdi Shehu, and the two agreed to move the process forward.

Pacolli-Dalipi also announced that the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning will take full responsibility for implementing the project.

“From now on, we will design with nature, not against it,” Pacolli-Dalipi said.
