Entry to Skopje Fortress will be charged once the site has been fully renovated and brought into operation. This was announced by North Macedonia’s Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski.

Works to improve the fortress are expected to begin this year, while if the plan is implemented as projected, the site will have a new appearance during the following year.
Mickoski clarified that the fee will not be introduced now, but only after the fortress reopens following the completion of the renovation, stressing that this is common practice in many countries around the world.
According to him, the current condition and the landscaping works carried out so far do not make sufficient use of the potential of one of Skopje’s most important historical sites.
The government will provide financial and logistical support for the renovation of the fortress and its transformation into a more significant tourist attraction.
The plan also foresees including the site in the “Skopje – European Capital of Culture 2028” program.
