Emilija Rexhepi takes part in conference on EU enlargement in Tirana

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo Emilija Rexhepi, together with Ambassador Skënder Durmishi, is taking part in an interparliamentary conference being held in Tirana on the topic “The strategic agenda for EU enlargement and Albania’s membership.” Representatives of the parliaments of European Union member states, candidate and potential candidate countries for membership, as well as representatives of the European Parliament and other European institutions, are attending the event.

The meeting has been conceived as a strategic forum to address the future of the EU enlargement process, exchange views among parliaments and deepen cooperation between them. Another aim of the conference is to underline enlargement as an important factor in Europe’s democratic transformation, stability and unity.

The discussion agenda includes three key issues: Albania’s path toward membership in the European Union; enlargement as a merit-based process and an instrument for strengthening stability and security; and the contribution of parliaments to the progress of EU enlargement.

According to a statement from the Assembly of Kosovo, Deputy Speaker Emilija Rexhepi’s participation in the conference creates opportunities to share parliamentary experiences, advance interparliamentary dialogue and address issues related to the European perspective of Kosovo and the Western Balkans.
