Singer Eli Fara has publicly reacted after an intimate video was shared, speaking about the violation of her privacy and the reactions that, according to her, have affected not only her but also her family.

In a statement, Fara said she is going through a painful situation and criticized the way women are often subjected to judgment for events that happen against their will.

She stressed that a woman should not have to bear the shame of an act committed against her, while calling for attention to be focused on those who film and share private material without consent.

The singer also stressed that her fame and profession do not deprive her of the right to privacy and dignity.

I have spent a lifetime on stage, sharing music and my love for art with the public. Today I am experiencing a pain that I would wish on no woman: the violation of my privacy and facing judgments and insults that also affect my family.

In this society, women are often expected to carry on their shoulders the shame of acts committed against them. Their privacy is violated, and then they are asked to explain themselves. They are hurt, and then judged for the way they cope with the pain. No woman should have to endure this humiliation.

Today I am experiencing firsthand how difficult it is to see your private life turned into a spectacle and to feel that, for some people, everything you have built is worth less than an intimate moment.

I am hurt, but I have no reason to be ashamed. The shame belongs to those who film, publish and share private moments without a person’s knowledge and consent. A woman’s intimacy is not permission to humiliate her.

Being an artist does not deprive me of my right to privacy and dignity. Every woman has this right, regardless of her name, profession or choices. I will leave this matter in the hands of justice. I ask the public for humanity and to stop sharing the video. Before passing judgment, think about the person and family you are hurting.
